We set up Coaching for Unpaid Carers in 2019 because we believe that every carer has the right to be able to live the life they choose, and that coaching is a fantastic way to empower carers to stand up for this right and be able to make changes so as to get more out of their lives.
This Carers Rights Day we want to:
celebrate the amazing work that carers have done to empower themselves through
coaching
spread the word about what a powerful intervention coaching can be to help carers to stand up for their rights
encourage more carers to ask for coaching, or to access it if it is available
encourage more commissioners and carers centres to think about providing coaching as part of their carers support offer
The evidence from over 300 carers who have participated in our programmes over the past 4 years shows just what coaching carers can achieve. Our own statistics show how carers who have experienced coaching have seen noticeable increases in self-esteem, validation and self-efficacy which are critical for carers to feel like they can stand up for what they want and need.
Over half of all participants noted how coaching helped them to feel more empowered to find solutions to problems in their lives. One person said they learned to “trust my own judgement, and that I am able to support myself and find solutions to my problems if I take the time to
reflect on my situation.” Another person told us: “I’ve learnt and gained so much from my coaching experience. The
most obvious change for me is the way I feel about myself. My confidence and self-esteem
has improved dramatically. I feel more positive about my life and future.”
